The Action of 1702

The legend of Admiral John Benbow is still referenced even today in certain British pop-songs, and his name dons more than a few pubs across England. A Pirate hunter, Merchant Sailor, and Navy Admiral – quite the tale follows John, but none more famous than his final battle against his own officers.

During a battle with a French flotilla, a number of officers/ships under Benbow’s command had shirked their duties and in the course of the fight the Admiral’s ship and himself was hit and wounded.¬†Following the battle he ordered the fleet back to Jamaica and had the officers arrested and stand trial by court-martial. Many were found guilty, and a few executed. A week after the trial Admiral John Benbow died of his wounds, but not before his wrath was completed.

Wrath of Benbow – English IPA – 4.8% ABV, 60 IBUs

A straight-up, no funny business, clean English IPA. A slight sweetness right up front, but finishing with that classic clean bitter of the English hops. Highly drinkable!

That’s enough history lesson for now, but we’ll be tapping this one Tomorrow (Friday the 28th) at the CRBC Taproom. So come enjoy a pint on a Friday evening!
